Indigo Alert Canada is an independent community campaign advocating for a new emergency alert category for vulnerable missing people. This page explains, plainly, what happens to your information when you use this site.
The short version: this site doesn't have a server we control, a database, or a login. It's a static page. We don't collect, store, sell, or transmit anything you type into it, with one exception: if you sign up for our email newsletter, your email address is collected and stored by our mailing list provider, Brevo, so we can send you updates. The email tool that drafts a letter to your representative is separate from this and still never sends anything through us. We do use a cookieless, aggregate analytics tool to see how many people visit, and embedded YouTube videos set their own cookies when you load the page. All of this is described below.
Information we collect
We do not collect any personal information ourselves through this site. Specifically:
- No accounts or logins. There's nothing to sign up for.
- Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics. This site uses Cloudflare's privacy-focused analytics to see aggregate traffic (how many visits, which pages) so we know the campaign is reaching people. It's cookieless and doesn't build an individual profile of you. We don't run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar cross-site tracking tools.
- Embedded videos: YouTube. The press section embeds YouTube videos using YouTube's "privacy-enhanced" mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which limits tracking compared to a standard embed, but Google may still set cookies and collect data (including your IP address) once you interact with a video, per Google's own privacy policy. We don't control this data.
- Fonts: Google Fonts. This site loads typefaces from Google Fonts' CDN, which means your browser makes a request to a Google server to fetch them. We don't control what Google logs from that request.
- The "find your representative" and email tools run entirely in your browser. When you type your name, city, or a personal note into the email template, that text stays on your device. It's never sent to us, logged, or stored anywhere. It only leaves your device if and when you personally choose to send or copy the resulting email.
Email newsletter
If you sign up for email updates using the form on the main page, we collect your email address and the time you signed up. This is stored by our mailing list provider, Brevo, not on infrastructure we run ourselves. The signup form is hosted by Brevo in an embedded frame and uses Cloudflare's Turnstile for bot verification. You'll get a confirmation email as soon as you sign up. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us directly to be removed. We don't use this list for anything other than campaign updates, and we don't sell or share it.
What our hosting provider sees
Like virtually every website, this site is served through infrastructure (currently Cloudflare) that automatically logs basic technical information for security and performance purposes: things like IP address, browser type, and request timestamps. This is standard web infrastructure logging, not something we configure, access, or use for tracking individuals beyond the aggregate analytics described above. We do not receive or review raw server logs ourselves.
Representative contact data
The names, ridings, party affiliations, and office email addresses shown in the "find your representative" tool are all public information, published by the relevant provincial legislatures themselves. We source and cross-reference this data from official government and legislature websites, credited in the footer of the main site. This is not personal data about you. It's public information about elected officials in their official capacity.
Links to other sites
This site links to external sites we don't control, including:
- The Change.org petition
- Provincial legislature and government websites
- News articles and video coverage
Each of these has its own privacy practices, separate from ours. We'd encourage you to review their policies if you have concerns, particularly before signing the petition on Change.org, which is operated by a separate organization.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Since we don't collect information from anyone, this is straightforward: there's nothing to collect from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If how this site works ever changes in a way that affects your privacy (for example, if we add analytics, a mailing list, or any form that stores data), we'll update this page and change the effective date above.
